I Remember

I Remember

I remember
A red kiddie wagon, a wooden tractor trailer, and a white camper.
They were our toys.

My cousin would lay strips of styrofoam in the wagon,
Tie it down with two pieces of wire,
Staple a large cardboard box onto the styrofoam strips,
And cut a door and a window in the box with his jackknife.
My brother and I would crawl into the "camper"
And Josh was the "truck".
He was the oldest and strongest.

We'd take sleeping bags into the camper
And play and play and play!
There was a little blue chair I loved.
The seat unfolded to make a little matress we kids slept on often.
We'd pretend to cook on the stove, sleep on the floor,
Sit on the couches and eat or talk, and make a lot of noise.

The toy we used most, though, was the tractor and trailer.
My brother and I rode in the wooden trailer
And my cousin drove the green John Deer.
He was the oldest.
We'd haul firewood and raked leaves,
Mow the grass,
See how fast the tractor could go,
Pretend this was our vehicle and we were going somewhere faraway,
Or just go for a good ride.
