A Typical Evening

She is lying on her left side
Her left elbow propped on the left arm of the couch
Her right hand reaching into a bag of maple-syrup popcorn
Crunching noisily
Staring at the TV.

He is sprawled in his beanie bag chair
His feet stretched out straight in front of him
His head cocked
Also staring at the TV.

He is leaning back in the recliner
His left foot across his right knee, his right foot on the footrest
Absent-mindedly reaching into the bag of popcorn and chewing slowly
As he, too, stares at the TV.
He has the remote in his left hand
But seems content with the boring commercials.
